garageband.com reviews

We have a few songs up for review on garageband.com, which is a web site devoted to independant music. For any band to get their song featured on the garageband website they have to review/critique 20 other bands first.

The catch is that the ones who are doing the reviewing have no idea who the band they are reviewing is. So the song is presented stripped of all identity... all anyone who is reviewing can go on is the music itself. Only after the review/critique is written will the identity of the band be revealed.

One last thing... the identity of the reviewer is never divulged... so people, while reviewing, can feel free to be as mean and disparaging as they want about the music they are writing about, without having to worry about getting beat up in a back alley or getting letterbombed.

On the one hand this system works great if the reviewer is open minded, then if you suck you will get a bad review and if you are honestly good you will get a positive review.... On the other hand if the reviewer has very narrow tastes or is just in a bad mood the review/critique has very little bearing on how good the music is... in that case the reviews tend to go... "you guys aren't punk rock. you suck." Which of course doesn't say much about the music... only about the reviewer's personal tastes... anyway... we have the reviews on our website because... well.... for the most part, the reviews are funny. If not downright mindless.
